1974 Gary Player Masters Tournament Worn Hilton Head Island Hat!
Worn During 1974 Masters Tournament at Augusta National!
Up for auction is the hat Gary Player wore during all four rounds of the 1974 Masters Tournament at Augusta National. On April 14, 1974 Gary Player would go on to win the second of his three Masters. Gary Player donned this hat for all four rounds of the 1974 tournament. There are several videos online which show Player wearing this hat for all four rounds, and Player graced the cover of Sports Illustrated on April 22, 1974 with this exact hat in clear view! This hat was given to Donald O'Quinn by Player after he won the 1974 Masters. On the brim Player inscribed "To Don, Proud to have worn this cap in my victory - Gary Player". After the hat was given to O'Quinn it stayed in storage for 47 years until it was eventually sold. This hat shows fantastic usage, as one would expect from a hat used for an entire tournament. The interior plastic on the brim does seem to have two minor cracks/deep folds (this is not noticeable when displaying the hat and does not protrude through the material). I am not sure if this was done by Player during the tournament or happened over time with age. This hat will come with a full LOA from James Spence Authentication. I will also include the placard stating how Player gave the hat to O'Quinn and I will include a copy of the April 22, 1974 Sports Illustrated. Thanks for looking and if you have any questions please feel free to ask!
